Integrated Arts
At Bright Start, we have a very unique three-part program which focuses on the arts through an integrated approach.
Part I
Every week, the Giraffes, Swinging Monkeys, Busy Bugs, Tigers, and Kangaroos eagerly anticipate a special adventure in learning through the expressive arts. On Tuesdays, Miss Mariana works and plays with the younger classes (Giraffes, Swinging Monkeys, and Busy Bugs), and on Thursdays, Mrs. Hayes visits her friends in the preschool classes (Tigers and Kangaroos). Each of these teachers brings a wealth of education and experience to the classroom and keeps parents informed through a bi-monthly newsletter.
The teachers base their lessons on curriculum developed by Classic Tales ‘n Tunes LLC, an award-winning local organization that has created a revolutionary new integrated arts program for young children. Each 45 minute lesson features stories, songs, instruments, movement, puppetry, and free play carefully crafted around an educational theme. Spanish and American Sign Language, the 2nd and 3rd most common languages in our country, are woven into each lesson, to facilitate communications and further enrich every class.
This novel educational approach takes full advantage of the expressive arts as a medium for learning, enhancing language skills, social awareness, motor development, and an understanding of the world around us. The entire curriculum is lovingly designed around original works created and performed by legendary authors, artists, and musicians. Classic Tales ‘n Tunes LLC provides programming at select preschools, child development centers, and community centers, and provides educator workshops throughout the DC metro area. Our music teacher, Mr. Skip, visits our Pre-kindergarten class every Tuesday (Kangaroos) and our Tigers, Swinging Monkeys, Busy Bugs, and Dancing Ducks classes on Wednesday. With his fun and outgoing personality, our children are drawn to his class like magnets. He facilitates each classes learning of new music through song and at times, through movement. Mr. Skip is known for the experienced way that he plays the guitar and the way he allows the kids to freely dance with the rhythms of the music as he plays.
